Founded by artist Sheng Jie (gogoj) in 2010, shanavlab regularly invites artists worldwide to share and exchange ideas. This release features 3 performances from the online series and 1 from the freetalk series, all recorded in 2011. The performances were streamed late at night via livestream.com, with artists playing in empty studios, using direct input while audiences tuned in freely online. At that time, broadband speeds (2–4 Mbps download, 0.5–1 Mbps upload) made live streaming an adventure. Exploring the interplay between "sound" and "print," Sounds Like Print is a special "time and tempo"-inspired project launched at BOOKED:. This exhibition examines the dynamic relationship between "sound" and "print" through objects that are produced in multiples and have the potential to circulate — such as cassettes, CDs, vinyl records, books, fanzines, and posters. The presentation as a whole captures the "do-it-yourself" spirit of independent art and sound publishers, showcasing their unique ways of connecting with others through forms of self-expression.
